NEWPORT-Two businesses and the Cocke County Recreation Building were the apparent unrelated targets of vandals over the past weekend, the Newport Police Department reported.

On Monday, Feb. 24, police responded to the Holiday Inn Express, at 1022 Cosby Highway, on a complaint of a vandalism, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

Police allegedly spoke to manager Arzella Shelton, who told officers a hotel guest had checked out of her room on the fourth floor before 6 a.m. Housekeeping staff later found the room vandalized, the report stated.
