NEWPORT-Three residences in Newport were entered with search warrants simultaneously by officers with the Cocke County Sheriff's Office, resulting in two arrests, on Thursday, Jan. 30, according to a CCSO press release. An undercover investigation by the CCSO resulted in the purchase of crack cocaine from a suspect at a residence on Filbert Street, another suspect on Mineral Street, and unknown persons at a residence on Lookout Drive, all located in Newport, according to the press release. The investigation revealed that the three separate locations were being used by two suspects, Shawn Russell Phillips and Terranie Ray, who allegedly conspired together to sell and deliver crack cocaine. As a result of a search by officers on Lookout Drive, approximately eight grams of a white rock substance believed to be crack cocaine and .3 grams of suspected marijuana were discovered hidden in the children's toy box in the children's rooms. The Department of Children's Services will be notified, CCSO Sheriff Armando Fontes stated. For more details, please see the weekend edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
