NEWPORTóMembers of Newport Utilities board of directors,
meeting Tuesday, Jan. 28, approved several bids for new vehicles and equipment.
At the recommendation of Jimmy Robertson, Electric
Department, the board approved McNelly Whaley Fordís bid of $21,345.00 for a
2014 Ford F-150 4x4 truck, the lowest of eight submitted bids.
They also okayed a bid from Ted Russell Ford for two 2014
Ford F-350 trucks at a cost of $25,188.00 each, or a total price of $50,376,
again the lowest of eight submitted bids. When asked why he recommended one of
three bids for 2014 models, instead of a bid for a 2015 truck, Robertson
explained the bids were for "brand new trucks" from the 2014 stock and that the
2015 trucks were "still being built."
On a recommendation from Linten Atkins of the NU Water
Department, the board approved Landmark Internationalís bid of $87,625.00 for a
2015 International 4400 dump truck.
