NEWPORT—As the deadline draws closer, several residents have picked up nominating petitions for the 2014 elections in Cocke County. All candidates for the May 6 Primary must qualify by Feb. 20.For the May 6 primary, according to the Cocke County Election Commission, those obtaining papers for the office of Circuit Court Judges are Ben W. Hooper II for Part 1, Richard R. “Dick” Vance for Part II, Rex Henry Ogle for Part III and Duane Sloane for Part IV.Incumbent Telford E. Forgety, Jr. has filed for Chancellor of the 4th District, while incumbent James Bruce “Jimmy” Dunn has filed for Fourth District Attorney General.So far, no candidates have filed for the Public Defender post.For more details, please see the Thursday edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
