Inmate charged with assaulting officers

NEWPORT-David Shawn Arrowood, 35, of 1126 Moore Ridge Road, in Newport, reportedly assaulted two officers when booked into the Cocke County Jail Annex, on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 5 a.m., according to Sgt. Jody Ball.Arrowood, who was originally arrested for vandalism after punching a hole in a wall at Newport Medical Center, is charged with two counts of assault, the report stated.Female correctional officer Lindsey Douglas was allegedly booking Arrowood into jail, when he verbally threatened to harm her, according to the report. Sgt. Ball said he went over to the inmate and gave him a verbal command to stand up and go with him because he needed to calm down before finishing the booking process, the report stated.For more details, please see the Thursday edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
