NEWPORT-Henry Bartlett, a prominent community volunteer in Newport and Cocke County, died Monday, Jan. 13, at the age of 81.Bartlett was believed to be one of the oldest persons in the United States suffering from cerebral palsy.Despite his disability, Bartlett was involved in multiple community organizations, including Newport Kiwanis Club, First United Methodist Church, Gideon International and Boys Scouts of America.Others
will remember Bartlett as the man who made his way around town in a golf cart.Bartlett was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on Dec. 21, 1932. Bartlett told the Plain Talk in a 2007 interview that his parents noticed his cerebral palsy early in his life, and he was 4 1/2 years old before he could sit up without support.For
