Officers tackle suspect with loaded handgun

NEWPORT-Charles Abbadie, 55, of 164 Pine Hollow Way, in Newport, allegedly tried to reach into his right pocket where he had a small .22 caliber handgun loaded and the hammer cocked in the firing position, while being restrained by two officers, on Saturday, Jan. 4, Constable Derek Wright reported.Abbadie was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful carrying of a weapon (handgun), possession of a handgun while under the influence, public intoxication, and resist stop, frisk, halt, and arrest, Wright stated in his report.Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of River Rest Apartments at about 5 p.m. on a call about a fight, according to Wright's report.For more details, please see the Thursday edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
