TDOT Litter Grant to help with tire disposal
NEWPORT—Cocke County citizens needing to dispose of used
tires will get a break on January 11 and January 18, according to Keep Cocke
County Beautiful Director Tim Berkel.
"Currently citizens may only dispose of four tires per
person at one of our local convenience centers,"Berkel explained. "Even so,
hundreds of tires are still be disposed of illegally across Cocke County by
citizens just dumping them randomly, often on someone else’s private property."
However, because of a TDOT Special Litter Grant, the number
of tires an individual may leave at a convenience center will be increased to
as many as 12 tires per individual on those two Saturdays.
