Stories about weather, a child named ‘Messiah’, and a tragic bus creash in Jefferson County were the top newsmakers in 2013.
JanuaryIn January, one of the biggest stories in recent years came to a conclusion as Jeffery Stock was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the death of Newport teenager Megan Maxwell. Maxwell went missing on April 26, 2009 and her car was found abandoned and burned in Del Rio. Her body was found 19 months later in the Long Creek Community. Stock was ordered to serve 100 percent of his sentence. The debate over the Parrottsville Convenience Center took a new turn as the city announced it was closing the center on March 1.
