NEWPORT-The Cocke County Regional Planning Commission voted unanimously on Monday, Dec. 23, to approve a plat for William Shults' property on Orchard Road, in Cosby, subject to Shults getting all of the necessary signatures. The
county planning commissioners also granted Shults a 30-foot easement with the stipulation, or understanding, that it cannot be used for future road development unless it is widened to the required 50 feet. Before
the vote, several commissioners tried to convince Shults to get a 50-foot easement, but he claimed it would hurt the value of his residence that he has up for sale, if an extra 20 feet were to be taken from his lot.Shults
said, "I'm just trying to correct some property lines."
