Food City's hunger campaign funds going to soup kitchen

Food City recently donated $5,000 to Newport's soup kitchen called Feed My Sheep
Ministries, from funds raised during its annual "Race Against Hunger" campaign.

NEWPORT-Food City recently ended its eight-week 'Race Against Hunger" holiday campaign, raising funds for nonprofit hunger relief organizations, including a local ministry.Newport's Feed My Sheep Ministries of Newport received a $5,000 check from Food City that came about thanks to those who donated $1, $3, or $5 on scanable cards at checkout registers. Customers wishing to make a donation simply selected the desired dollar amount and it was added to their grocery bill.Food City takes the funds it raises in the previous year's hunger campaign and distributes them locally in the following calendar year.For more details, please see the Thursday edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
