NEWPORT—Retail sales in Cocke County continue to grow.
That’s the good news Cocke County Partnership’s Board of
Directors received during their meeting Thursday morning at the Community
Center when Partnership President Don Hurst gave his monthly report.
"Reports show Cocke County’s figures were up 9 percent in
October, the latest month we have figures for," Hurst said, “and are up 5.15
percent for the fiscal year. This comes at a time when national sales tax
figures for the same period show an increase of 0.7 percent."
Hurst also reminded the board that these figures do not
include sales of gasoline and diesel. "All fuel taxes go to Nashville to run
TDOT," Hurst explained.
