Landfill Committee approves letter for first stage of landfill permitting

NEWPORT—The Landfill Committee of the Cocke County Legislative Body voted Tuesday to endorse a letter for Class 3 permitting of additional property at the Cocke County Landfill.In November 2012, the county purchased 10 acres adjacent to the current landfill on Old Asheville Highway from Shirley Ball. The additional property is expected to give the county 10 more years on the landfill.Jake Greear of McGill Associates said the application for stage one has been filed with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.For more details, please see the Tuesday edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
