GREENEVILLEJordan Self poured in 42 points to lead the Cosby Eagles to a 68-63 win over West Greene on Friday in the annual Greene County Thanksgiving Tip-off Tournament.

The junior guard finished with an impressive 17-of-26 mark from the floor, and 27 of his points came in the second half as the Eagles were just barely able to pull away for the victory with some late free throws. Bryson Valentine added 11 points in the win.

After a hard fought victory against a scrappy West Greene (1-5) team, Cosby head coach Brad Flatford was relieved to get the victory.

We got some stops late and hit some free throws to kind of extend the lead a little bit and hold on down the stretch, Flatford said. Were still not where we need to be in terms of some of the things we do, but I felt like we handled the ball better at times tonight. I felt like we rebounded really well at times, particularly Derrick (Norris) and Bryson (Valentine). We needed them to go to war on the boards and they did.

We didnt give up many second shots. Thats been a problem for us most of the year so far, but they did a good job with that tonight I thought.

It was Self who stole the show on Friday evening as he continued to attack the basket, hit mid-range jumpers, drain threes, while also continuing to get to the free throw line.

Self, who finished with a 42 point performance, also managed to fire in 24 in a loss to Chuckey-Doak earlier in the day. He also opened the second half by scoring the Eagles first eight points.

Thats the best offensive performance Ive had a player have since Ive been coaching here, Flatford said. Ive had some guys that could really score it, but Ive never had anybody get 40, and (Self) got 42 tonight. We needed every one of them. We needed them all.
