NEWPORT—A trip to Washington, D.C. last summer to attend the Key Club International Convention included an added bonus for Jacob Rathbone, a member of the Cocke County High School Class of 2013.

While in America’s capitol city, Rathbone, his fellow club members, and chaperones visited Arlington National Cemetery, where they observed the changing of the guard and saw the eternal flame at President John F. Kennedy’s grave.

But then Rathbone and fellow club member Robbie Mathis struck out on their own.

Prior to the trip, Rathbone’s grandmother, Imogene Rathbone, has asked him to try to visit the graves of her aunt and uncle, James and Maude (Strange) Rowland. Mrs. Rowland was a sister of Floyd Strange, Imogene’s father, all natives of Del Rio.

For more details, please see the weekend edition of the Newport Plain Talk.

In other words, the Rowlands would be Jacob’s great-great-aunt and uncle.
