Cosby High School will play host to postseason TSSAA Fall Sports action on Monday evening.
The school will host both the Region 1-A volleyball tournament and a District 2-A/AA soccer tournament quarterfinal matchup.
In volleyball action, the entire tournament will be played on Monday.
District 2-A champion Berean Christian, which toppled Cosby High 3-1 this past Monday night for the title, will face off with District 1-A runner-up North Greene. That regional semifinal will begin at 5 p.m.
South Greene, which topped North Greene 3-0 for the District 1 championship on Thursday, will play Cosby immediately following the conclusion of the first semifinal.
Winners will meet at approximately 8 p.m. for the Region 1-A title. The winners of both semifinal games also qualify for TSSAA Class A sectional berths, which will be played on October 17 for the right to advance to the state tournament.
In soccer play, the No. 3 seed Cosby Lady Eagles will look to earn their third postseason victory in as many seasons on Monday night, when they host No. 6 West Greene. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Cosby High has won Region 1-A/AA quarterfinals in each of the past two seasons, but with the change in TSSAA classification this past offseason, they will now play a district tournament before advancing to a region tournament.
District 2-A/AA semifinals will be held on Tuesday night. Cosby would face the winner of No. 2 Chuckey Doak and No. 7 Cumberland Gap. The highest remaining seed will host that affair. District finals will be held on Thursday evening, with both teams that play for the championship advancing to regional semifinal play on October 22.
Seymour wins District 2-AAA volleyball: A year after falling short in the District 2-AAA tournament, the Seymour Lady Eagles persevered for the 2013 championship.
The Lady Eagles, coached by Newport’s Erin Biddle, earned the crown with a 3-2 win over Sevier County High School on Thursday night at South Doyle. The Bearettes upset No. 2 Morristown West earlier in the evening to earn a shot for the championship.
A night earlier, Seymour had to endure a five-game match against the Lady Trojans, holding on for a 3-2 win to advance to the finals.
Both Seymour and Sevier County will play in the Region 1-AAA semifinals on Monday.
