NEWPORT—An early lead built by West Greene High School was not enough to survive a late rally by Cocke County High School.
The Lady Buffaloes took an early two-goal lead in the opening 15 minutes of Tuesday’s soccer match against the District 2-AAA Lady Red. However Cocke County stormed back in the second half behind a hat trick by Taylor Smith to earn a 7-4 victory at Larry Williams Stadium on Senior Night.
“They came back excellent in the second half,” Cocke County soccer coach Mitzi Hall said. “It was a good job by Taylor to get the hat trick, and all they girls played excellent.
“They all played great and I’m proud of them and happy for them,” Hall said. “It was a good cap for our last (regular season) game and for our Senior Night as well.”
