On Tuesday, local
breast cancer survivors, their families and friends joined Newport Medical Center’s Radiology
Department for the annual lighting of a pink Christmas tree to begin a month-long observance of
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The tree stands in the
department’s waiting area as a reminder of the ongoing goal to eradicate this disease.
“I see my life so much better and different now,” said survivor Susie O’Dell.
O’Dell spent several minutes detailing her year-long journey.
“I’m a nurse, and I’d always been careful about having mammograms,” said
O’Dell, “but then I got careless.”
