NEWPORT-A driver, who said he had drunk alcohol, and his passenger were seriously injured when the vehicle they were in went off the road and hit a metal sign post at Knowles Market, on Sunday, Sept. 22, at about 4:50 a.m., the Newport Police Department reported.

Patrolman Billy Woody stated in his report that police were called to Knowles Market on North Street on a report of a vehicular crash.

Woody said he located a yellow Ford Focus resting against the metal post in the parking lot of Knowles Market with "significant" damage to the vehicle.

He allegedly found driver Joshua V. Carpenter, 32, of Chuckey, lying outside on the ground. His passenger, Kimberly Setsor, 36, of Whitesburg, was also lying outside in another spot on the ground, according to the report.
