NEWPORT-Two Cocke County deputies patrolling a neighborhood in search of possible burglars nabbed a driver on three drug charges instead.

On Sunday, Sept. 1, Deputies Danny Hartsell and Tim Brannon observed a white Honda Accord in the middle of Fairfax Road.

Hartsell and Brannon, who were in the area because of recent break-ins, watched the car travel at approximately five miles per hour on the wrong wide of the roadway.

Upon stopping the vehicle, officers say they detected a strong odor of marijuana. After getting the driver's consent to search the car, officers say they got passenger Kaden Lamonte Haney, 19, 135 Holley St., out of the vehicle and asked if he had any illegal items in his possession.
