EMORY, VA—Newport-native Jason Grooms will be enshrined into
the Emory and Henry Sports Hall of Fame next weekend.
Grooms, a 1993 graduate of the school,
will be one of five former Emory and Henry student-athletes to be inducted into the athletic hall of
fame during a special ceremony at halftime of the Wasps’ contest against Ferrum.
was a former standout for Cocke County High School on the gridiron, earned All-American honors
during his playing days at football for the Wasps’ will be one of five inducted into the Emory and
Henry Hall of Fame next weekend.
Also being inducted are fellow football players Charles
Peterson (2000) and Darren Reed (1995).
Other inductees include former women’s basketball player
Kelly Smith Houseright (2002) and softball player Mandy Smith (2003).
The season opener for
Emory and Henry begins at 1 p.m. on September 7.
