NEWPORT—A long-time former Cocke County law enforcement officer was sentenced to probation on Monday after entering a guilty to a drug delivery charge.Forty-nine-year-old Richard Caldwell, of Cosby Highway, Cosby, pled guilty in a one-count “information” on Tuesday to a single charge of delivery of a controlled substance. Pleading guilty by information means that the defendant waived his right to have the case reviewed by the Cocke County Grand Jury.In
the plea agreement with state prosecutors, Caldwell was sentenced to a two-year term of probation under the supervision of the Tennessee Department of Correction and will be allowed to apply for judicial diversion. Circuit Judge Ben W. Hooper II will hear that application on October 7.For
