NEWPORT-The Hon. Lu Ann Ballew, child
support magistrate, filed an order with the Cocke County Chancery Court on Tuesday, Aug. 13 that
officially changes the first name of a seven-month-old baby from "Messiah" to "Martin", which is
also the last name of the mother, Jaleesa Martin.
Martin and Jawaan P.
McCullough, who are not married, are the biological parents of the infant.
Martin has appealed Judge Ballew's order giving the baby a different name from
the one the mother chose for her child.
Martin and McCullough reportedly
went to Chancery Court in Newport on Thursday, Aug. 8, after the two parents could not agree on a
last name for their child.
The change in the infant's last name was
part of a case for 4th Judicial District Child Support Magistrate Ballew.
The name that Judge Ballew chose includes the last names of both parents, and the
middle name that the parents had previously agreed upon. The baby's name is now Martin Deshawn
