NEWPORT-A "big-time" drug dealer in Cocke County and another person who is "always with, and around, people selling drugs" were arrested Tuesday, Aug. 6, Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes announced.

Officers received a tip earlier in the day that Cordara Marquis Johnson, 24, of 243 White Oak, in Newport, was in the area selling drugs, Deputy Sheriff Jerry Vandergriff reported.

Sheriff Fontes said of Johnson, "He's a very active drug dealer in the community."

Undercover officers made an arrangement to meet Johnson at the Sparkle Wash car wash at 435 Cosby Highway to purchase crack cocaine, and, a vehicle with Johnson and driven by Whitney Lashea Shults, 21, arrived. Officers stopped the vehicle.

Officers allegedly recovered 13 grams of crack cocaine from the right cargo pocket of Johnson's shorts, as well as one gram of marijuana and $995 in cash, according to Vandergriff's report.
