running for honors again at this year's String Band Showdown.

DEL RIO-A total of $2,500 in prizes will be awarded
winners of the Del Rio Community Association's String Band Showdown during
2013's Del Rio Days celebration.
The musical competition will be held Saturday, October
26, from 1-5 p.m.
A grant from the East Tennessee Foundation's Arts Fund
will allow the DRCA to offer $500 for each of four finalist bands for a
one-hour performance, plus an additional $500 for the ban earning the Audience
According to contest organizer Mike Sledjeski, "The
contest committee aims to present a variety of musical styles, so any type of
musical repertoire can qualify. Bluegrass, old-timey and gospel music are the
most common styles locally, but rockabilly, Texas swing, Americana, or any
other category might also be included in the contest lineup. Bands will be
required to feature primarily acoustic stringed instruments."
