NEWPORT-A gasoline spill just before midnight Monday
forced the closure of Cosby Highway and the evacuation of several businesses
and West Sequoyah Drive residences.
The spill reportedly occurred while a tanker truck was
delivering gasoline to the Marathon convenience store on Cosby Highway. Due to
a malfunction, gasoline began pouring out of the vehicle and the delivery
driver was unable to stop the flow. As a result, gasoline flowed down Cosby Highway
and onto West Sequoyah Drive.
"We got the call around 11:30 p.m.," said
Newport Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Ottinger, who served as incident
