NEWPORT—Thunderstorms Wednesday evening caused numerous power outages in Cocke County.

According to a statement from Jimmy Robertson of Newport Utilities, three feeder circuits out of Cosby substation tripped during the storm and other  outages were scattered in the Cosby area affecting approximately 3,000 customers.

Outage durations ranged from 1 hour to 7 hours with an average of 2.6 hours.  Most of the damage was due to lightning and some trees falling on the lines.  All power was restored to customers by 2:30 a.m.
