NEWPORT-A high-speed chase, at times allegedly reaching
up to 115 mph, ended in a wreck and arrest in Sevier County, on Sunday, July
14, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.
CCSD Deputy Johnathan Ball stated in a report that he was
traveling south on Hooper Highway when, around 3 a.m., he came upon a vehicle
that had allegedly just been hit by black vehicle that had come off of
Stonebrook Road without stopping at the stop sign.
Ball stated that he saw the taillights of the black
vehicle, a 1993 Honda that had hit the other vehicle. He said he noted that the
passenger side taillight was brighter than the driver-side taillight, which
made it stand out in the dark.
Ball pursued the Honda on Hooper Highway to the Cocke
County/Sevier County line, not seeing the vehicle turn around at the county
line, according to Ball's report.
