Road signs and earth-moving machines moved into place this week as work on the
reconfiguration of Interstate 40 Exit 432 and its connection to Hwy. 25-70. This work is one of
several highway projects either currently underway or about to begin in Cocke County.

NEWPORT-Work on several local highway
projects continues to increase and traffic issues will be part of the process, according to Cocke
County Partnership President Don Hurst.
Speaking to the Partnership's
Executive Community early Thursday morning, Hurst summarized the status of five local
"Work began yesterday on the project to redesign Exit 432,"
Hurst said, "and the nearby Hwy. 411 construction is becoming much more visible."
Another project, work on the I-40 bridge spanning Douglas Lake is also on the
horizon. "Plans call for one lane each of the east and westbound lanes to be closed," Hurst
continued. "We will be asking TDOT to place large signs directing motorists to alternate

through Newport. "There will also be traffic issues on Hwy. 25-E when work commences on the new
bridge there, and work on the Wolf Creek bridge continues."
