Two-vehicle collision results in close call with a gas pump

NEWPORT-A violent two-vehicle collision on Cosby Highway resulted in one of the vehicles coming very close to crashing into a gas pump at a service station, on Tuesday, July 9, the Newport Police Department reported.

Carl Fish, 78, of 2690 Sorrel Road, in Cosby, said he was traveling west on Sequoyah Drive and approached a stop sign at Cosby Highway at about 11:30 a.m., Sgt. Ricky Parton reported.

Fish, who was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus, said he looked in both directions, didn't see any vehicles, so he proceeded into a traffic lane on Cosby Highway, where a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Pamela Faye Barnes, 62, of 275 Senior Way, in Newport, collided into the left side of Fish's vehicle, causing his Ford to spin around in the road, the report stated.
