NEWPORT-Cocke County Director of Schools Manney Moore
urged members of the CLB Finance Committee to remember the school system's
needs as they work to prepare a budget for the coming year.
"Please don't forget us," Moore said, in
closing his presentation to the committee on Tuesday afternoon.
In beginning his presentation, Moore told the committee,
"We've done the best we can" in preparing a budget for the coming
year. "The fund balance is about the same as it was last year."
Moore pointed out that while the fund balance shows over
a $5 million balance, only an estimated $500,000 of that is unencumbered.
"The fund balance includes money for retirement and
insurance which cannot be used for other purposes," Moore said.
In reference to other parts of the budget, Moore
described the transportation needs as "the same song and dance."
