NEWPORT-The Cocke County Highway Department and Landfill
budgets were the focus of Monday's meeting of the Cocke County Legislative
Body's Finance Committee.
The big topics of discussion were capital outlay money
for the Highway Department, especially paving funds, and improving the cash
flow and fund balance for the Landfill Department.
Cocke County Finance Director Anne Bryant-Hurst pointed
out the Highway Department received 25 cents of the $2.40 cent tax rate in the
2012-13 fiscal year budget. She said the Highway Department is seeking more
than $800,000 in equipment this year in addition to operating funds, which would
create a deficit of more than $300,000 in the $4.6 million budget.
