Flash Flooding: Thunderstorm produces heavy rains in short time


Some motorists in the Parrottsville area had to find alternate routes Sunday
afternoon after a thunderstorm produced heavy rains and flash flooding in the area.

Heavy rains caused flooding issues for residents throughout Cocke County on Sunday.
A quick downburst Sunday afternoon dumped more than a inch and a quarter of rain in about 20 minutes.
As a result, many roads and city streets experienced flooding.
"Most of the damage we faced was in the eastern part of the county," said Cocke County Road Superintendent Kenneth Ford. "The water washed out a 18-inch culvert on Lower English Creek Road. We also had reports of washed out areas around tiles in the Edwina-Brideport community, on the lower end of Cosby and in the Parrottsville area."
