NEWPORT--Northwest Elementary School was recently recognized as the best Save the Children program for the 2012-13 school year.  This award was given based on the school accumulating the most individual monthly awards throughout the year.

Chapple Osborne, Save the Children Program Specialist, made this announcement on May 9.  Ms. Osborne stated, "I am very proud to make this announcement, and I appreciate all of the hard work of the students and staff at the school for earning this recognition."

The Save the Children Program Coordinator at Northwest is Victoria Henry.  Her team includes in-school and after-school tutor Ashley Bates, after-school tutor Gary Bateman, and Healthy Choices Coordinator Mary Proffitt.

All of the students participating in the Save the Children (Reading Rocks) in-school and after-school programs received medals and were treated to a special party.  In addition, Northwest will receive a special award and title of "Best Program 2012-13" during the Tennessee Summit held in Nashville in September 2013.
