Burning beans set off smoke alarm

(c)2013 NPT PHOTO BY NELSON MORAIS

From left, Carolyn Hall, Newport Fire Department Engineer Jason
Woodson, and NFD firefighter Aaron Hayes, listen to Tim Pack, NFD
Battalion Chief, while he tells Newport Housing Authority apartment
resident Hall she did not need to apologize for setting off a smoke
alarm in her home when she left a pot of fresh lima beans cooking
unattended on her stove, on Monday, June 3. Pack reassured Hall it
was better to be safe, than sorry. Hall was cooking the beans to
celebrate fellow NHA resident Wilma Ward's 86th birthday party held
later that day.
