NEWPORT-The Cocke County Regional Planning Commission voted to ask developer Guy Hommel Jr. to guarantee for 15 years the durability of a concrete road he had built in his Blue Springs subdivision.

Commissioners also approved a motion to send Hommel a second letter to remind him that his two letters of credit are due in August.

Commissioner Lee Willis said before the vote, "We need to get this behind us. Let's ask Hommel if he'll guarantee his concrete road for 15 years, like an asphalt road" would be expected to last.

Cocke County Attorney Carter Moore said, "Has anyone heard from Mr. Hommel? He came in to our last meeting. He said he was trying to sell (lots in his subdivision). He wants the concrete road approved. He's willing to renew the (two) letters of credit if we do. He was told to work it out with the (county) road department."
