NEWPORT-It took several rounds of voting, but the Newport Board of Mayor and Aldermen finally formed a majority and voted to appoint Don Large to the Newport Utilities board, when the Council met Tuesday, May 14.

Large was selected by aldermen by a vote of 3-2 to fill an upcoming vacancy due to Bill Lewis's term expiring soon.

A majority of the aldermen was needed for one of several candidates to be selected for the NU board. Several received only two votes, not enough to be selected.

Those people voted on before Large was selected were Bill Lewis, who sought a return to his position on the NU board; Alderwoman Kathy Holt; Dan Metcalf; and Large.

Voting for Large were aldermen Freddie Gregg, Holt, and Kenny Morgan.

In other news, the Council passed three resolutions related to the authorization of the issuance of general obligation bond anticipation notes for the new public library/museum scheduled to be built in downtown Newport, for no more than $5,534,000.
