NEWPORT-Despite rainy, damp
conditions, the Fifth Annual Cruise Against Cancer for Celebrate Life posted its best year yet,
raising more than $15,000 Saturday at Sagebrush Restaurant in Newport.
"Our attendance was about one-third of what we normally have," said Nathan
Manning, event coordinator. "The weather was marginal. But, this is the best year we've ever had.
In the five years since we started, we've now raised about $50,000."
Manning said Modern Woodmen of America, operated in Newport by Faye Fish,
provided $2,500 in matching funds this year.
"The event is really
starting to grow," he said. "There were cars on display that probably shouldn't have been out in
the rain. We appreciate everyone who participated."
out that some participants came from as far away as Texas just to take part in the event.
