NEWPORT-Wednesday, April 24, 2013 marked the 3rd Annual Job Shadowing Program for Cocke County High School and Cosby High School juniors. In 2011 the Cocke County Partnership/Chamber of Commerce had a vision to revitalize the job-shadowing program that had previously been in the Cocke County school system in years past.

Member Services Coordinator, Lynn Ramsey brought the idea to Director, Valerie Fancher and together the two revamped the entire program.

"Beginning in 2011 we set some very strict parameters to the selection process of the program," said Fancher.  "We decided for the first year that we were not going to focus on the quantity of the students that we would send through the program, but the quality of the program.  At that point it was decided that the number of students that we could provide a quality experience for was 30.

"An application was formed, and the students knew up front that this would be a selection process based on the quality of their application, an essay about why they wish to participate in the Job Shadowing Program, and a teacher recommendation."
