NEWPORT-It took seventeen rounds before Taylor Wiley calmly spelled the word 'martyr' to claim the title of 2013 Spelling Bee Champion for the Cocke County Elementary Schools on Tuesday night.

Wiley outspelled fifteen other competitors for the championship and took home several prizes, including a check for $100 from Parrottsville Ruritan Club.

Each of Cocke County's nine elementary schools had the opportunity to send two contestants to the event, which had been postponed from an earlier date after snow closed local schools.

Finishing second was Wiley's schoolmate, Dylan LeBeau, who received $75. Rounding out the top five spellers were Amethyst Moorefield, representing Parrottsville, who was presented $50, Dylan Scarbrough of Smoky Mountain, who received $25, and Dawson Lane, a Cosby student, who won $15.
