NEWPORT-Cocke County Board of Education members
unanimously approved a ten cents price hike for student lunches for the
2013-2014 school year during their meeting Thursday evening in the Cocke County
High School Library.
The board also discussed extensively requests from three
parents for transfers for their children from one elementary school to another.
The board unanimously approved a request from Sarah
Heister to transfer her daughter Hillary from Grassy Fork to Smoky Mountain
after the mother explained that transporting her daughter to Grassy Fork had
become extremely difficult.
According to board chair Richard Coggins, the Heistsers
live "right on the line" between the two districts and the Smoky
Mountain bus actually goes by their home.
