Cocke County High School junior guard Allison Ball has been named to the Tennessee Sports Writer's Association Class AAA Girls' Basketball All-State team.

Ball, in her third year as a starter for the Lady Red, was a key component to one of the most successful seasons in recent Cocke County hoops history this year. The junior guard came on strong over the last two months of the campaign helping lead her team to places that the program had not been in over two decades.

Cocke County finished with a 21-10 overall record and its first regular season District 2-AAA championship since 1987. Ball then led the team to its first District 2-AAA tournament title since 1988 and was named the MVP of the event for her double-double in the title game victory over rival Morristown West High School. She was also voted the District 2-AAA Media Team's Most Valuable Player

The Lady Red finished up the campaign in a Region 1-AAA semifinal loss to Tennessee High, finishing just shy of the school's first Class AAA sectional in two decades.

Ball, despite not winning the District 2-AAA coaches vote for Player of the Year, was the lone player in the league to earn All-State honors. She is also the second member of her family to earn All-State honors. Her older sister, Whitney, was a Class AAA All-State golfer during her senior season in 2008, prior to moving on to the college level at Lincoln Memorial University.

She is also the third Cocke County High School student-athlete to earn All-State honors in the last three years. Softball standout Kelli Wyrick and football player Krys Cates were voted to the All-State teams of their respective sports in 2011.

Science Hill was the only other squad placing players on the All-State team from Region 1-AAA as Shy Copney and Tiana Tarter also made the team. Erin Walsh from Bearden and Farragut's Madison Blevins also made the Class AAA team from Region 2.

Four players from area Class AA schools also made the All-State team including Gatlinburg-Pittman High School's Karsen Sims. Sims, a Coastal Carolina University signee, led the Lady Highlanders to a District 3-AA title over highly-touted Fulton High School.

Grainger High's Allison Hodge, Fulton's Jayda Johnson and CAK's Anna Hammaker also were All-State honorees.
