GRASSY FORK-The honoree at a huge party on Easter Sunday
reportedly was celebrating her 90th birthday, but to watch Kate Wilburn hop up
and down to greet the swarms of guests at a dinner in her honor, one would
guess her to be a woman half that age.
She lives life to the fullest, zipping over the
countryside in her small truck, visiting her children and neighbors, and
keeping up with the community events.
On more days than not, she'll be outside, tending her
countless flowerbeds that brim with dozens of varieties of plants ranging from
asters to zinnias.
And when cold, dreary weather arrives, she turns her
energies to creating beautiful quilts.
She's one of 17 children born to James Charles and Dora
(Guy) Stokely. They're all gone now, except for Kate, sister Hester Woody, and
brother Jack Stokely.
She married Earnest Lewis Wilburn when she was 15, and
they became the parents of six children, two daughters Frances and Marie, and
four boys J. D., Troy, Kenneth, and Perry.
