NEWPORT-Newport's historic Tanner School standing waiting
to serve again, but the question is "How long?"
City of Newport Fire Inspector Jeremy Shelton led a tour
of the building recently for several local citizens interested in the
building's restoration and preservation.
While the interior is now warm, dry, and snug, the
building still needs a tremendous amount of work done before it can be

asbestos has been completed by removing the paneling and ceiling tiles in the
affected areas. The structure itself appears to be sound."
