NEWPORT-The Cosby Eagles dropped a pair of five inning games to the Unaka Rangers on Thursday at home.

Unaka took game one, 10-3, and followed that up with a 6-0 victory in game two.

It was the first time in almost a week that the Eagles had been able to get on the field due to poor weather conditions, and it showed as Cosby made several errors throughout both games.

“They’re pretty sound and have a solid team,” Cosby head coach David Williamson said. “We’re just making too many mental errors and fundamental errors, and we’re getting ourselves in a hole. That’s what killed us in both games.”

“Mistakes are just killing us. We had nine errors in the first game, and without those nine errors it’s a ballgame,” Williamson said.

Michael Kagel and Zach Daruna turned in solid performances on the mound, but the defense behind them struggled for a large portion of the day.

“Our pitching is doing good,” Williamson said. “It’s the errors behind that are costing us the chances we have at winning. If we can’t do better defensively, it’s going to be tough for us to play with anybody.”

“We’ve put together some pretty good games, but we’re still making errors in those games.”
