GREENEVILLE—Two men and a woman were indicted Monday by a
Greene County grand jury on multiple counts of first-degree murder in
connection with the shooting deaths of two former Newport residents whose
bodies were found on a dirt road under the Nolichucky River bridge the morning
of March 11, 2012.
Indicted were James Douglas Black, 50, of 1309 Main St.,
White Pine; Christopher Allen Jones, 31, of 649 7th St., Newport; and Tabitha
N. Whitlock, 33, of 3426 Dulaney Road, Mosheim.
Courtney Amber Thompson, 20, and Terrence Logan Stewart,
21, died early March 11, 2012, in what prosecutors say was a premeditated
robbery that turned violent.
The three defendants are each indicted on six counts each
of first-degree murder, reflecting different theories of the crime to be
presented by prosecutors.
