NEWPORT-After battling for four innings with one of the upper echelon teams in District 2-AAA, the Cocke County Lady Red wound up on the losing end of a 16-5 decision to Morristown East on Thursday evening.
Each team scored five in the first inning, but the Lady Hurricanes would hold a slim four-run edge until they broke the game open in the fifth to take the 11-run decision.
“Take away that last inning and the game is back to a 9-5 score and we’ve got a ballgame,” Cocke County coach Jan Sneed said. “That’s the big thing for us, we’ve got to put together seven complete innings.”
