NEWPORT-A late goal by Sullivan South ended any hopes of a victory for the Cocke County High School soccer squad.
Sullivan South scored an equalizer in the game’s 69th minute to even the score at a goal apiece, which eventually forced a tie in the non-district game held at Larry Williams Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The late goal spoiled what appeared to be a winning-effort for Cocke County, which lost its season opener at district foe Seymour last Friday by a 4-1 margin.
“I think we lost some of our focus,” Cocke County second-year soccer coach Jacob Lemons said. “I don’t think that team scores many goals on us if we play them tough and we kind of knew that in the back of our head.
“We just wasn’t paying attention, lost our focus and they got the goal,” Lemons said.
