NEWPORT-Kenneth Richard Shultz, 43, and Karen Joy Sparks,
30, were charged with reckless endangerment for not putting their four children
in child-restraint seats prior an accident they had on Holt Town Road on
Monday, March 18, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.
Two of the children, Summer Shultz, 2, and Kenneth R.
Shultz, 4, were allegedly ejected from the vehicle during the accident on a
rainy evening at 8 p.m. The two were airlifted by helicopter to Knoxville
following the single-vehicle accident, according to a report by Sgt. Robert
Thornton and Deputy Sheriffs Joey Owings and Shane Shoemaker.
