NEWPORT-Members of the Newport Board of Education,
meeting Monday evening at Newport Grammar School, approved several
recommendations regarding the expansion of services provided by the NGS
Cherokee Clinic.
The six recommendations, according to committee members
Michelle Black, Steve Thompson, and Linda Powell, who presented the findings to
the board, should expand the clinic's current services to the community and
increase its financial stability. "Currently the clinic is losing money,"
said Thompson, "and we want to keep it open."
Other committee members included board member Charlotte
J. Mims, NGS Principal Sandra Burchette, and Deb Murph, who represented
Cherokee Health Systems
The clinic, located in NGS, is staffed by a nurse
practitioner provided by Cherokee Health Systems.
Currently the clinic serves NGS students, staff,
administration, and their families.
